Thanks. This was the annual Loi Krathong festival in the ancient capitol city of Suhkothai where the festival originated about 800 years ago. It used to be a one-day affair, culminating in the evening with everyone going down to the river and launching "krathongs", which are little floats with flowers and a lit candle. The longer the candle stays lit, the better luck you will have next year. Now it lasts a week, and they have a parade with floats representing about 30 provinces.
