"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
Voltaire [François Marie Arouet] (1694–1778)
"Sticks and stones may break my bones
But words can never harm me"
I'm completely disgusted with the press, the TV alleged news, and CBS for blowing up Don Imus' stupid comment way out of proportion. His job is to say rude things on the radio. You don't fire someone for doing his job.
Want to be that next week we'll see him announce he is going into rehab to deal with his alcohol/prescription drug problem?

Date: 2007-04-14 07:44 pm (UTC)Now all we need to do is get rid of all the Right Wingnut Talk Show hosts who spew the same kind of hatred.

Date: 2007-04-15 01:35 am (UTC)That's so un-American of you. Dictatorships get rid of voices which offend them, and force their people to listen to their toadies. Democracies allow their people the choice of when to change the channel or just throw the damned radio out the window. Being pro-choice applies to everything.
And we're not talking about hate here. Imus said nothing about hating. He made a rude comment. He simply called a group of fine women athletes "nappy-headed whores". Had they as much class as they had talent, they would have ignored the comment as beneath their notice.

Date: 2007-04-15 06:06 pm (UTC)He can still say what ever he wants - Online, in a blog, etc. I'm not stopping him.
What I objected to is giving these idiots MultiMillion $$$ contracts with 1,000,000 watt megaphones to preach their ugliness to everyone. Putting them on MSNBC and acting like they were the modern equivalent of Walter Cronkite.
You obviously haven't listened to his show. He is all about hating, being rude and otherwise begin a JackAss and That Rude Comment was actually just the straw that broke the camel's back.
And That Rude Comment hurt the ladies badly. They have gotten more press about that comment than they got about the fact that they placed 2nd in the NCAA Women's Basketball League. And do you even know who beat them? Nope. Not covered at all... Until Imus made his stoopid comment, no one had really been paying attention to the basketball contest at all. Sad.
It wasn't their class that was lacking, it was Imus's. The Nation is a much happier place now that he no longer has a large bullhorn to spread his garbage around.

Date: 2007-04-15 11:56 pm (UTC)I have listened to his program (I mentioned that in my first posting) and yes, he is rude and uncouth and pretty boring. But that's not hate.
WTF do I care about the basketball tournament? It has nothing to do with this issue.
They were deeply hurt. Boo hoo. People with class are not hurt by comments about them which are untrue. If I lobbed the same phrase at you, I'd expect you to laugh in my face, and get on with your life.
