Honolulu Ideas?

A friend is taking his 80-something parents to Honolulu for a family vacation. They are from central Oregon and do not particularly like hanging out on the beach (I know, it's insane, but there you have it). I have never been there, so I'm asking the great hive mind for suggestions I can pass along to him of things to do on the Big Island which are accessible (we're talking walkers here) and possibly interesting inland.
